Students at the University of Kassel can choose between staying in a student hall of residence (Wohnheim) or in a private sector accommodation.
There are about 1,000 rooms available in student halls of residence in Kassel and Witzenhausen. All of them are administered by Studentenwerk Kassel.
The rent for a room varies from € 130 to € 240 a month, depending on location and furnishing. You can choose between a single apartment with en suite facilities, or a room in a flat that you will share with other students.
Most halls are located close to the university and have good access to the public transport network. Accomodation for disabled students is available.
Many international students find it convenient to stay in halls, as all rooms are completely furnished. Sharing a flat will give you a good opportunity to make friends with fellow students. Student tutors are available to answer all your questions concerning accomodation. Most rooms are equipped with internet access points.
Students can alternatively search for an accommodation in the private sector. You can either have a flat on your own, or share one with other people (Wohngemeinschaft or WG, as this is usually referred to).
Finding private sector accommodation in Kassel is usually not difficult. Both furnished and unfurnished accommodation is available. Vacancies are posted in the local press and on the internet. A list of student rooms and flats is available from Studentenwerk.
Further details and an application form (Antragsformular für einen Platz in einer Studentenwohnanlage) are available on the Studentenwerk website.
If you wish to stay in halls, please apply as early as possible. Applications for rooms will be considered in the order of their arrival.
Should you need more information, do not hesitate to contact Studentenwerk.
Exchange students and scholarship holders are advised to book their accommodation in halls via the International Office.
