Impressions of the first info meeting for the new ECE students taking up studies in summer semester 2013.

On January 29 - 31, 2013, Prof. Dahlhaus and the ComLab team will together with 35 Master students visit Nokia Siemens Networks and Rohde & Schwarz in Munich and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen to check future job options. During the visit, students will be introduced to activities and jobs of communication engineers in research and development.
This year’s first ECE info meeting will take place on Monday, January 16, 2013 at 10:00 am in room 1328.
M. Sc. Ahmed Abbas Hussein Ameri researcher at the Department of Microwave Electronics and ECE alumnus is defending his PhD thesis. The defense is public for students and members of the university and takes place in room 2348, WA 73 at 2 pm.

For a hundred days Kassel hosts the world famous documenta exhibition of contemporary modern art. The motto of this year’s 13th documenta exhibition is DESTRUCTION and RECONSTRUCTION. More than a 150 artists from 55 countries have been invited. ECE students and staff enjoyed an English guided tour by a so-called worldly companion in the framework of the module "social communications".

Representatives of the ECE Program have attended workshops of the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD) in Cairo/Egypt.
The ECE Master program was presented both at Cairo University (Electronics and Communications Dept.) and at the IET Dept. of the German University Cairo (GUC).
There has been a broad interest and many contacts have been established. We are looking forward to welcome excellent students from Egypt.
This year’s first ECE meeting takes place at 10:00 a.m. in room 0315.

Welcoming of incoming students taking up studies in winter semester 2009 is scheduled for Monday, October 12, at 9:30h in room -1603. Our first ECE info meeting will take place at 10:30h in room 1328.
Representatives of the ECE Master program attended the Tongji-Forum held in Berlin. Our ECE graduate Qiu Wang, who came to Kassel through the cooperation agreement with Tongji “Deutschkolleg”, presented the ECE program, his experience and gave an outlook on the future.
As of summer term 2009 ECE students may now chose „Java Code Camp“ in the module Software Components for Communication Systems R1.
This course was introduced to the curriculum in the context of various projects in ComTec, such as the industrial driven projects for application products development, VENUS - a LOEWE Elite research project for pervasive computing and the MATRIX project.

Mr Mohammed Abdel-Awwad, Egyptian government scholar, completed his M.Sc. studies in Electrical Communication Engineering as first graduate from the new accredited exam regulations ECE 2008 within the regular study period of 3 semesters with very good result. His Master's thesis focusses on the Development, Optimization and Fabrication of 3D UV-transparent NanoImprint Template.

Kassel press HNA reports on the latest scientific achievements of our ECE Alumni Dr Zena Asdesach and Dr Srinidhi Embar. The researchers work on the development of energy-efficient GaN transistors for mobile phone technology at the Microwave Technology Lab.
Prof. Dahlhaus has attended the Promotion Tour of the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, DAAD) which started in St. Petersburg. The study programs of the University of Kassel, in particular the ECE Master program, have been promoted on three different student fairs, namely in St. Petersburg (Russian Federation), Kiev (Ukraine) and Charkow (Ukraine). There has been a broad interest in the different fields and many contacts have been established. We are looking forward to welcome students from St. Petersburg, Kiev and Charkow for the ECE program in the near future.

M. Sc. Asdesach Zena Markos, ECE alumnus from Ethiopia (intake 2002) and researcher at the HFT Dept. is going to hold his PhD disputation on the topic: „Efficiency Enhancement of Linear GaN RF Power Amplifiers using the Doherty Technique“ on Friday, 2008-11-06 at 14:30h. The disputation is public and takes place in room -1606, WA 73.

The ECE students went on a four-day excursion trip to south Germany, namely Munich and Stuttgart, between October 6th and 9th together with Prof. Dahlhaus, coordinator of the ECE program, and the VDE Kassel, a professional association of electrical engineers in Germany. The trip included visits to notable communication technology companies and research institutions including Rohde & Schwarz, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Agilent Technologies.

The new ECE study regulations 2008 have now officially been reaccredited by the agency ASIIN in Dusseldorf, Germany. The regulations are in force until Sept. 2013 and will replace the ECE study regulations 2004. The program is classified as being research-oriented, the program duration is three semesters.

Qiu Wang and Gu Wenwei have taken up their studies under the cooperation agreement with Tongji–University, Shanghai, in winter term 2006/07. The cooperation agreement was signed in April 2006. It provides for up to 5 applicants p.a. to take up their studies at the University of Kassel in the accredited Master Course „Electrical Communication Engineering“. The admission procedure is coordinated by the ECE admission office at the University of Kassel and „Deutschkolleg” of Tongji-Universität, Shanghai. Qiu Wang and Gu Wenwei arrived just in time:


Ms Zou Lulu has successfully completed her M.Sc.-Studies as first graduate from the accredited modularized exam regulations ECE 2004 within the regular period of studies. As Ms Lulu has returned to her homecountry China, she could not participate in this term’s graduation ceremony. Ms Lulu majored in ECE 3 „Optoelectronics and Optical Communication“. She wrote her excellent M.Sc.-Thesis under Prof. Hillmer on
Molecular Beam Epitaxy Growth and Characterization of AlGaAs/GaAs.

Dr. Kannan Balasubramanian from India took up M.Sc.-studies in Electrical Communication Engineering at the University of Kassel in 2000. He is now laureate in the BMBF Contest NanoFutur in section LifeScience with his project
Functionalized nanotubes and nanowires for applications in analytical (bio)chemistry and medical diagnostics.
